"That is not dead which can eternal lie, and with strange eons, even death may die" this warning has been passed down among the elves of Karlan for millenia. It's true meaning is a mystery, it is said that only the most ancient Undying Ones know the true meaning. When asked, the ancient beings only maintain a stony silence of fear and loathing.
Seventy years ago, the Empire discovered the continent of Karlan, and promptly began colonization. At first, all was going well, but within the last fifteen years, the elves have begun to attack convoys leaving the port of New Hope. Meanwhile, the Gaia Corporation has grown ever more powerful, slowly sinking it's tendrils into the Church of Earth. This corruption could lead to a major schism between the Four Churches. Despite these troubles, settlers come to Karlan every year, some come to seek land, some come to seek riches, and some come to get a new lease on life. From the harsh volcanic range around Mt. Kadath, to the sweeping Aurora Plains, to the mysterious Darkwood, settlers from the Empire come to settle a new life. The native races are for the most part peaceful, except for the recently aggressive elves of course. Karlan is a growing and prospering new land, but it holds many dark secrets.

Cool so what mechanics are you using White Wolf, Call of Cthulu, Kult, Blood of Heroes, D20? What potential problems/clunkiness are you preparing for between the story and the mechanics?

I'm using the D&D 3.5 system. this is my first campaign so i'm figuring it will probably take me a bit to get the difficulty and rewards down right of course. I'm not sure what kind of conflict between the story and the mechanics to expect to be honest, though with the group who will probably be playing, getting them to stay serious for the more horror toned parts of it is going to be difficult

fair enough I have that problem sometimes in horror themed games (I asked to play a Jester once just to have an in game out for such behavior)

3.5 can be great for that. The tome of Horror book has some good general ideas, although the system does have a hard time dealing with the sanity bending of Cthuggan encounters, but i prefer Kult's system for that over pretty much anything, the rest of the Kult system <img src=" title="Confused" />

my friend is going to loan me heroes of horror probably, sanity isn't as big of a deal as it probably sounds, yes, it's going to be heavily Lovecraft influenced, but i don't plan to drive any of the characters insane, unless it's actually through a power, though maybe i'll add taint rules once the horror gets rolling. I'm using the psionics system because i think it offers the chance for more horrific encounters, at least from the monster aspect.
